Lisbon’s gastronomic icon gets a book about its history

With more than 60 years of history, the Cervejaria Ramiro (Ramiro Brewery) has become almost a must-stop in the Portuguese capital. More than that, it is considered today a gastronomic icon of the city and a world reference in the restaurant field. The release of his book, Ramiro-Cervejaria was the company’s way of “honoring all people who worked there” and tell their story.

Written by Alexandra Prado Coelho, journalist of Público since 1990, the 242 pages of the book take us to the memories of the place, along with the images of Paulo Barata, photographer, co-creator and director of the gastronomy festival Sangue na Guelra.

In addition, the story is divided into 4 chapters that show the company’s growth, including the tourism boom of Lisbon in recent years. There is a part called “The secrets of Ramiro” that tells what made the house become so famous and unique, “It was a very interesting thing to get into this world of Ramiro and try to perceive the story and not only as it was born, who was Mr. Ramiro, but also how this house became so special, so unique in Lisbon, “says the author.

There is also a chapter on sustainability and the media’s attention to the venue, such as former CNN presenter Anthony Bourdain and even large programs from countries such as Turkey, South Korea, and Japan, which went far beyond Mr. Ramiro would probably have imagined.
